In oriental countries, certain gums have been used since a long time for supplementing the mechanical hydration of long-fibre paper. At least, the secret of the famous handmade Yoshino paper remained a closed book to the western world. This secret is nothing more than the complete replacement of the mechanical hydration of the fibres with a chemical process. A tree gum obtained from the root of a malva tree was what provided the practically unprocessed, long-fibre material with excellent bonding characteristics, and also achieved unprecedented dispersion during the sheet formation.
It was still a long way from such traditional use of gums in the manufacture of handmade paper in the far east, to the use of the same in modern paper manufacturing. After a lot of research, Polygal AG has found out the most suitable gums from the group of galactomannoses and has adapted it to the special conditions of modern paper manufacture through a chemical treatment process.

Today we provide paper manufacturers with technologically sophisticated additives that not only allow them to make better paper but also enable them to manufacture it more economically by achieving savings in the grinding duration, or through high-quality cellulose without loss in consistency.
We offer a wide range of wet-end as well as surface treatment additives under the protected brand:
